The Uncreated Light - La Luz Increada

Saint Gregory Palamas (1296-1356) wrote about the nature of the luminosity of Tabor, who had to defend the orthodox teaching on spiritual light against the learned monks Barlaam, Akindin and their followers. It was the time of the Renaissance: the revival of paganism in art, thought and customs. In philosophy, pagan concepts of God began to return, as a transcendental, supramundane, inconceivable Absolute. Based on this non-Christian concept of God, Barlaam and Akindin claimed that on Tabor the apostles could not see God, they saw a common physical light. 

Saint Gregory Palamas, on the other hand, insisted that the light of Tabor only resembled physics, but was of a completely different nature. This light was brighter than sunlight and whiter than snow, but it did not blind, it warmed, but it did not burn. His radiance was accompanied by an intense feeling of joy. To differentiate it from ordinary light, Saint Gregory called the light of Tabor: “A divine, uncreated energy." The essence of this light is inseparable from the eternal divine essence, since God is simple and undivided. Although God in His essence is inconceivable; His acts and energy, being inseparable from His essence, are conceivable for beings created in His image and likeness. This is also why the Son of God became man, to make us commune with his divine nature and thus divinize us.

San Gregorio Pálamas (1296-1356) escribió sobre la naturaleza de la luminosidad de Tabor, quien tuvo que defender la enseñanza ortodoxa sobre la luz espiritual frente a los eruditos monjes Barlaam, Akindin y sus seguidores. Era la época del Renacimiento: el renacimiento del paganismo en el arte, el pensamiento y las costumbres. En la filosofía, los conceptos paganos de Dios comenzaron a regresar, como un Absoluto trascendental, supramundano e inconcebible. Basándose en este concepto no cristiano de Dios, Barlaam y Akindin afirmaron que en el Tabor los apóstoles no podían ver a Dios, veían una luz física común.

La esencia de esta luz es inseparable de la eterna esencia divina, ya que Dios es simple e indiviso. Aunque Dios en Su esencia es inconcebible; Sus actos y energía, siendo inseparables de Su esencia, son concebibles para los seres creados a Su imagen y semejanza. También por esto el Hijo de Dios se hizo hombre, para hacernos comulgar con su naturaleza divina y así divinizarnos.
